Calling East Midlands Web Geeks

I really enjoy going to conferences and social gatherings of web geek types.

Ok I can admit this now I’ve been to a few really good ones over the last year or so (dConstruct, Multipack, Geekup, FOWA and most recently @media Ajax).

But… the regular grassroots ones that cost the least, also seem to have been the most difficult to get to. And, there just doesn’t seem to be an equivalent in the East Midlands (correct me please if I’m wrong here!). So, after talking with a number friends/associates/former colleagues and in particular Kate(Monkey) Bolin we’ve decided it’s about time to give it a go ourselves and get a regular meet-up group going for Web Developers, Designers etc. that will be for people of the East Midlands.

Some ideas on how this may work:

• We meet once a month
• We alternate between Derby, Nottingham and Leicester city venues
• We may (or may not) have an hour or so of snappy talks and presentations at the beginning of the night
• We definitely drink a few beers/wines/ciders/cocktails/fruit juices (delete as applicable)
• We definitely take the opportunity to talk shop and nonsense as much as possible

No concise name for this yet, but we do have our first gathering on Thursday 29th November at the Malt Cross in Nottingham at 8pm - more on Upcoming.org or Facebook
